Port options in Genoa

Hubby and I have a 7a-6p docked cruise stop in Genoa on Mon., 7/23. We are trying to decide if we should hit some "must sees" in Genoa and then take a train to a Cinque Terre village or two or maybe Portofino. I understand that the vibe of the two areas is very different, and we like a more laid-back feel (as I understand the Cinque Terre is), but we don't want to feel terribly rushed to try and see/do too much.

Also, would it be best to plan time for the train trip first so we don't get frantic should there be a delay getting back to Genoa?

Thanks!

I can’t offer any advice as to what to see or do, but be careful with your timing. You won’t be off the ship until after 8;00 and will be told to be back on board by 4:30, 5:00 at the latest. Just to say, you will not have 11 hours to do what you want to do.

With that amount of time, I would not go further south than Portofino. There is much to see in Genoa. Just wandering the historic district is fun. Also, there are several funicular rides that offer great views.
