The Port of Rome is actually in Civitavecchia, over 80 km (50 miles) away from Rome.
The options are:
Taxi or Private car (limo service): approx. 140€ and up depending on the number of passengers.
Train from Roma Termini station to Civitavecchia station + 1/2 to 1 mile walk (less than 5€ per person if with Regionale commuter train or up to 16€ with a faster high speed train). Journey time is 47 min with the fastest trains to over one hour with the Regionali. Since the Regionale Veloce (fast regional) takes only 15 min longer than the high speed train and costs only just over 4 euro, that is the better option. Once in Civitavecchia, if you don't want to walk the 1/2 mile there are also taxicabs, as you can see in this image of the Civ. station

There are regional trains to Civitavecchia every 30 minutes from Termini station, plus a hand full of express trains at various times. The regional trains take about 1 hour and cost 4.60 EUR per person. Express trains (IC or Frecciabianca) cost more and take 35 to 45 minutes.

Take the train from Termini. It is easy and very cheap to do and you will have lots of company doing the same thing. We have made that trip six times with no problems especially if you do not have a ton of luggage.
