Porlezza or Porto Ceresio for July fortnight?

Hi, has anyone stayed in either place or have strong views re best base for 2 weeks in July? We loved staying in Ascona and Cannobio on Lake Maggiore and are seeking an Italian village/small resort with similar vibe and scenery with good transport links to Lugano (for train to/from London via Basel) Bellagio/Varenna and to Morcote and Gandria.

Thanks! We'll be self catering and without car. Seeking beautiful lakeside eateries, stunning
views equal to Ascona etc. and preferably old town feel too.

Thanks for any personal experience accounts!

I drove through Porlezza but have never been to Porto Ceresio. Porto Ceresio has a train station which makes it possible to reach Lugano via rail, although maybe there is also ferry service available. The other destinations you mentioned are rather challenging to reach, unless there is ferry service available. Varenna and Bellagio are on a totally different lake. From Porlezza you could reach Lugano and Menaggio by bus. From Menaggio, which is on Lake Como, you can take a ferry to Varenna or Bellagio (or both).
