Poppy fields in Tuscany

Hi all, So it's red poppy time here in Tuscany, and we've seen quite a few red poppies lining the roads and such. What we are looking for though is the full fields of red poppies that seem to make it onto every postcard of Tuscany. Does anyone know exactly where there are red fields of poppies in Tuscany or Umbria? Grazie mille,
David

They are all over. We found a really nice one on the road to Pienza, we were on our bike....cars were stopping to take pictures of the field, we walked our tandem into the middle of the field and snapped away!

We have been in Tuscany in May (late) several times and saw tons around Cortona and other places as well.

I have seen photos of the Tuscany poppies and would love to see them in real life. David, I hope you get to see them in their full glory! Buon viaggio, Ruth

I have always seen them in full bloom in late May, so I think you might be a bit early unless they are having an unusually early spring. One beautiful field was right off the freeway just outside of Munich, but can't help with exact location ( but it was end of May)

It's been a very early spring here in Italy this year, with very unseasonably warm weather, so I think the poppies are early. We're in Perugia, so Cortona is an easy drive, and we'll be checking into that. Thanks all and I'd love more suggestions!
