Ponza or Elba three nights mid-June

My son (12) and I are traveling by train through Italy for 15 days in mid-June. We're hitting the big three: Venice, Florence, and Rome. I would like a couple days of nature and more chill downtime before finishing up in Rome (Jubille crowds, I know). I was thinking we might go to Elba or Ponza between Florence and Rome. Looking to swim, hike, maybe ride bikes around. Any recommendations? Open to other islands that are easily accessible by train and ferry.

Without a car Elba might be a bit challenging both to reach and also to visit (it’s not too tiny). Since you have such a short time, I would probably opt for Ponza. It’s tiny, so more easily explorable in a couple of days without a car.
