Ponza for a Day?

Arriving by Windstar cruise ship April 1 - no fooling! We aren't looking for an organized tour, but we'd like to have a plan for the day -always subject to change! We like to explore. Like to hike, walk, swim. (Last year in Skiathos, we rented a vehicle for the day with another couple and it was one of our best days on a Seabourn cruise!)

I found a couple of "14 best things" lists, but none have maps or a suggested "day on Porto".

Was disappointed not to see a VoiceMap tour as they have been the best way to get around on our own!!! (https://voicemap.me/share/bhotur in case you are curious)

Anyone have an "itinerary" they suggest?
Would you rent a scooter, rent a motor boat, use the bus, or just stay walking to the cruise port?

What does Ponza have to do with Porto?
They are not even in the same country.

I haven't been to Ponza for decades. I don't remember whether we arrived in September or very early October, but they were rolling up the sidewalks and we had difficulty finding a restaurant open. While that may have changed, I'd do some research on what indoor options you may have. I'd definitely contact the local tourist office, if there is one.

@Suki: Sorry if I confused you. In the 14 Fun Facts about Ponza blog, #1 was, "The long and skinny island of Ponza has one main town – Porto – where a group of pastel houses and shops rise behind the ferry landing." Since Porto refers to a port or harbor, I bet there are several just like "Lost Lake" Or "Blue River"....or even Portland!

Are you familiar with Ponza? Any suggestions about the island (or the town, lol)?

Thanks!
