Pompeii vs. Osti Antica vs. Tivoli

I plan to see the normal sites in Rome. I’m touring the Colosseum, Forum, and Palatine Hill on my first day and plan to visit the Sistine Chapel on another one, should I try and make a trip out to Osti Antica and/or Tivoli? I’m traveling by myself and am a get up and go traveler, so I won’t be sleeping in (already adjusted myself to the new time zone. Getting up at 9pm - lol.) I will have five full days staying in Rome - one of those I’ll be traveling to/from Pompeii. I’ve never been to southern Italy before and seeing the Colosseum and Pompeii is a dream come true!

If you've got 5 days in Rome, then yes, Ostia Antica is well worth a visit, if or no other reason than to get out of the city, enjoy the historic sites and relax in the grass at Ostia with a picnic lunch. It's only about 30 minutes outside Rome so you could easily do it in half a day.

If you are definitely going to Pompeii, you could easily skip Ostia Antica.
I loved Tivoli - especially the Villa d'Este - very quirky. Many people suggest you combine it with the ruins of Hadrian's villa (We ran out of time having visited the Parco Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli).

Hi, I would have suggested Ostia Antica for ease of getting there, plus a nice overall site to wander and see ancient mosaic floors, etc. But, since you’re also going to Pompeii. I would choose Tivoli for something completely different from your other activities.

If you go to Tivoli, the train option will get you to the Tivoli station. There’s also an option to purchase the bus link up to the Villa d’Este through Trenitalia.com & app at the same time.

While Pompeii and Ostia Antica are quite different from the transportation aspect, they are very similar. That being the case, Tivoli would be something a bit different.
