We are going to be in Sorrento in October. We are wanting to see Pompeii and herculeum. My wife is looking at tours from Sorrento. I'm saying we can take the train and catch a tour guide there. Recommendations?Also, are their long lines to get tickets to get into Pompeii? Approximate cost? Thanks

Since you are planning Pompeii and Herculaneum, you may want to look at this...

The 3day card will cover both sights (plus 1/2 price on others) and transportation on the bus around the Amalfi Coast and Circumvesuvian train.
In your instance it would pay for itself.

Gerri, thanks for the info. Noticed that Pompeii and Hurculeum are not listed. I might be looking at it wrong. Do you think adding Vesuvius to this one day trip would be stretching it a bit?

Unless you are people who routinely hike all over, or stand for hours on stones, you might be too tired to add the mountain visit. But you can decide when you're there whether to catch the mountain shuttle bus from either train station (shorter ride from Herculaneum).
