Pompeii tour with Ciro

We did our tour of Pompeii with Ciro Manfredi this week and I had to pop on here to say how great it was. We requested a tour of Pompeii along with a hike up Mount Vesuvius, and the whole day was well planned and utterly enjoyable. A driver was arranged to pick us up at the hotel and take us to Pompeii. There, we were met with the charming Ciro. I highly recommend Ciro as a guide - he is energetic and very engaged, but more importantly extremely knowledgeable about Pompeii and brings the town alive for you with his tour. He ensured we had a complete picture of what life was like just before the eruption. In addition, he skillfully navigates around the other tour groups and makes you feel like you are the only ones in the town, with some views of the lesser travelled areas. Another bonus: his ability to point out all the best photo opportunities (where he also takes on the role of photographer) ensured we have memories to take home!

Thank you for the input.

Our friends want to "do" Pompeii when we are in Sorrento next fall. Do you have contact info on Ciro to share?

Is he Gaetano's son? I think that guiding in Pompei has been in the family for generations. Gaetano was our guide when we went recently. Great information and very entertaining.

My wife and I had a tour of Pompeii with Ciro this afternoon and he was fantastic! He was very informative, fun to be with and we felt like we have a great understanding of what Pompeii was like at the time of the explosion. I would highly encourage anyone who is thinking about a tour of Pompeii to schedule it with Ciro you will not be disappointed!

Notice how all the posters who "highly recommend" this tour have next to no posts? You'd think that if they had really been planning this trip with help through this forum, they'd have a bit more history. Color me cynical...

CT, I think they use Rick Steve's forum to share their experience. Nothing wrong with that. It's like you can share your reviews, positive or negative, on Google Maps or TripAdvisor. This forum can serve as an additional path for exploration.
