We will be visiting Pompeii in a few weeks, and were hoping to visit with a tour guide. A friend had recommended Context Travel, but their tours seem mostly to be private ones with a ridiculously high price tag. We would consider a private tour guide (or a group tour), but we are looking for tours that charge a reasonable fee. The main thing is that we'd like to be with someone who's knowledgeable and interesting. Any recommendations? Thanks so much!

Christine beat me to it! Posters who've taken the Mondo tours have reported enjoying them very much. Hope a Pompeii tour works with your dates.

We hired a guide after we arrived at the site. Very inexpensive (can’t remember exactly but under 20 euro per person)and I think we had about 10 people in our group for a 3 hour tour and were able to remain on the site afterwards to explore on our own. Our guide was fantastic and spoke perfect English. The site is huge and having a guide made our visit so much more enjoyable and interesting.
