Pompeii Tour private tour guide

I have been emailing a guide for a private tour of Pompeii and the Museum in Naples. I won’t mention the name and it is one posted on Rick’s book. A bit pricey, but I wanted the experience to be stellar for my Wife and I and this may be our last trip to Europe.

Once we got to the price, it is high with the conversion to dollars, but I was willing to go it as a once in a life time experience. Then the catch comes in. They want 50% down and want it wired to a Western Union location. My problem is, I have had scams run like this on Ebay before. Second, other than the recommendation in the book, I don’t know this person. I wrote them and told them my concerns. Seemed like a good person and I don’t mind paying when I get there in person, but...sending money via Western Union, to me, has little to no safeguards for my protection. Life flushing money down the toilet.

What do I do...PUNT???!!!

Most tours won't ask for payment in advance and if they do they let you pay with a credit card. I would suggest to the tour guide to pay them via paypal or I would find someone else.

I have only once had a private guide ask for a deposit. The best ones, IMO, do not. Gaetano Manfredi did not require such a thing when we went with him....

Sorry for the errors on the last email. Was using my IPhone! Googled his name and found the link.
