Pompeii tour ideas

I signed up for the Mondo Guide tour of Pompeii, but looks like I’m the only one signed up for June 29th.

I have a ticket for Pompeii already. Will other tours which all seem to include tickets allow me to just pay for the guide?

I’m looking to spend less than €50 for a 2-hour tour without the ticket.

Any recommendations?

Can I find something at the site?

Also, looks like it will 95 degrees F/35 C that day.
Is there any shade or indoor spots?

I’ll have Sun hat, sunscreen, water etc…

Is there any shade or indoor spots?

Very little

We used the RS audio guide (free) when we toured there. Seems like we went everywhere the tour groups did ( i.e., did not miss out on anything)

We also used the RS audio guide supplemented by a few other resources. I thought the audio guide did a good job and its free. To be honest, I can't think of any area that was shady. When we were there it was about 75, maybe 80 and on the rock it was hot for me. I think there might be some shady spots by the amphitheater.

Sometimes I need more than water to rehydrate. I don't think they taste great, but you can get gatorade powders.

I do recall guides at the entrance looking for business.

If it were me, I'd look for videos of Pompeii to familiarize yourself with it and to determine what you are most interested in. There are lots of them.

We were there in June a couple of years ago and it was stifling hot. I had a washcloth in a plastic bag and I would dip it in the fountains to rub water on my neck and arms. I think.the only shade was in a couple of buildings. I also had an umbrella which worked out well in addition to a hat. Sunscreen and a waterbottle.

Phew that is going to brutal. Pompeii has little shade - no trees. Some of the roads have walls which provide a little shade but everyone else will be attempting to grab a bit of it. There is only one cafe, just past the forum area which is very basic. There are drinking water fountains throughout the site. You will find some relief from the sun inside some of the buildings. Finding a place to sit for a few minutes is hard, especially if you have to keep up with a tour. There is a website called alongdustyroads.com which has practical info about visiting Pompeii including finding guides at the site, and guided tours.

Make sure you take something light to eat…the heat and dehydration can sap your strength.

I have found an old fashioned hand fan is helpful for creating a breeze and the hint about a damp towel is great, placed on your wrists for a few minutes or around your neck it will help cool you.

Still looking for advice on finding another tour this Wednesday 6-29-22 at Pompeii for one person to join as Mondo tour doesn’t have enough people to run.

Can I find people at the gate looking for tours and join their group?

I have a ticket for Pompeii already and lots of tours include a ticket so would have to pay for another ticket to join them, which I would consider at this point.
