Pompeii Tour Guides

We are visiting Pompeii later this month, and would like to hire a tour guide for Pompeii. It is a bucket list item for my 11-year-old, so I don't feel that the audio tour will be sufficient. I contacted Gaetano @ www.pompeiitourguide.com, but 290 EUR for our family of 4 is more than I want to spend. Any other recommendations for guides, especially those good with older children?

yes, the Mondo shared tours:

it's 15 euro a person which you pay to the guide, and you sign up on the site above. as long as 6 people show up the tour goes ( i did this in April). We had an excellent tour guide and it was a great deal! ( i did tip him 20 euros)

I'm also interested in this! I expect to tour Pompeii on October 21st with my 82 year old mother in tow. Leaning towards private tour, so I look forward to seeing tour guide info.

Just did this tour with Walks of Italy, https://www.walksofitaly.com/pompeii-tours/ with Sonia. Absolutely wonderful. She loves Pompeii and easily expressed her knowledge and love. But, sadly, still pricey. Our group was quite small, 5, but 2 had failed to show up.

Last I checked (9 years ago), the full audio guide tour at Pompeii is 6 hours long. And that's probably if you stick just to the audio guide. I am pretty into audio guides and that was even enough for me. Planning to return in 2023, so keep us posted.

We bought tickets to a guided tour when we arrived. They are group tours-probably about 20 people but not very expensive. We found it excellent for our purposes but of course it is not geared to you personally.

I booked a private tour for my nephew and I with guide, Antonio Somma, who is recommended by Rick Steves. It was a two hour tour for $130. We were met at the train station, and the tour was excellent!

We ended up booking a tour with Askos. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it hit all of the major highlights. We ate lunch afterwards then wandered around ourselves, and I'm glad we had the tour because it definitely helped us see and understand what we were seeing. For the price, we felt it was well worth it!

We did the same as Beth, when you buy your tickets at the booth there will be an option to buy a guided tour. The group was small and hit all the highlights and was not long and drawn out, which may be a bit much for an 11 year old who may be more interested in walking around and not standing and listening to someone talk. Plus the cost is very reasonable so if your kid gets antsy no big loss if he get uninterested and you need to just wonder away and do your own thing.
