Rick suggests Antonio Somma for a private tour of Pompeii, but I did not receive a response to my inquiry. Does anyone know the best way to reach him or have another suggestion regarding a guide for Pompeii? Thanks.
We had good luck with picking one of the local guides at the entrance. Chatted with a couple briefly to test their English and to lay out what we want to see. Had a good three hour overview tour and then spent the rest of our day re-visiting some of the sites and other areas. Pompeii is massive so you have to pick and choose.
We did the same as Frank several years ago, just found one at the entrance and she was great. As we had to drive back to Pisa that day we did a shorter tour and wandered around a bit on our own. It worked out fine. Also consider going to Herculaneum, it's smaller and we were able to see pretty much all of it in an afternoon. However, I though there were more cobblestone streets with higher curbs than Pompeii, so the walking was harder.
I have a private tour of Pompeii booked with Antonio in September. I reached him at [email protected]
He was quite prompt with his reply to my query and throughout our email exchange as we established the date and time. So I think it's unusual that he has not gotten back to you. Maybe give him another try?
His mobile numbers were included in his emails so I'll pass them on: MOBILE +39-3934063824 OR +39-3398919489 He uses WhatsApp too.
His response might have ended up in your spam folder.
We were very happy with Askos Tours. We used them for private tours of Pompeii, Ercolano, Oplontis, and Stabiae.
How much did the guides at the entrance charge and for how long? Thanks
