Pompeii tour guide?????

I have heard a lot of great things about Gaetano Manifred and have been trying to contact him for a few days. I was wondering if anyone has had a hard time getting him to respond or if I am just being impatient...lol? Does anyone have names of other reputable tour guides for the pompeii area? We were thinking about taking the Naples/Pompeii tour through Viator.com, but decided we would like to cut some cost and get a tour guide that way we can also go see Ostia. Help!!!

We used a tour guide who was standing at the entrance to Pompeii. We hadn't planned on using a guide, but we were glad we did. He charged us 30E for the 4 of us and he spoke good English.

So do these tour guides just hang out in front of Pompeii at all times of the day? Pretty safe bet that you can walk right up and snag one?

I visited Pompeii in May with a RS Tour. We were approached by at least one Guide as soon as we approached the ticket office. Our tour of the site was already arranged (I believe it was Gaetano?) but there seemed to be lots of Guides available.

We just had a FANTASTIC experience at Pompeii with a guide named Bartolo Giusto, who was recommended by another guide we contacted before the trip. Bartolo was very helpful in making the tour arrangements, helped us get ahead of the crowds, and had an endless supply of fascinating information. He was great about answering our many questions. We enjoyed his demeanor and professionalism, and his English is impeccable. Highly recommended. His email address is [email protected].

My family and I used Gaetano and he was amazing. One thing I noticed is that sometimes his e-mails were dropped into my spam folder automatically, but I don't recall waiting more than a couple of days for a reply.

Having a guide at Pompeii is a really great idea. If you are trying to stay on a budget I would go with one of the guides that are waiting for business right at the entrance. Their 2 hour tours cost less than half of what Gaetano would charge you. We went that route and had a great experience.

Just contacted Gaetano this week on the recommendation of my brother, who said Gaetano was amazing. He responded overnight (9 hour time difference) and we had a couple of exchanges almost in real time. I would guess that if he didn't respond he is not available.
