Pompeii to Amalfi transportation?

In October, going from Pompeii to our hotel in Amalfi. Would it be best to hire a car service or take train/bus? (reading in a 2018 post on this site that there is a train to Salerno and then bus to Amalfi. However a lot can change in 8 years)

If car service is best recommendation, who would you recommend?

There are two of us traveling with carry on luggage only that we will have stored at the Pompeii Scavi -Villa dei Misteri station or at the Porta Marina gate.

Amalfi will be our home base while seeing the Amalfi Coast.

Thanks

When using the Search function be sure to filter by Date so you get recent posts

You can take the Circumvesuviana local from Scavi entrance to Sorrento then the bus to Amalfi
You could also take a ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi but would have to get down to the ferry port from train station- walk or there is a bus from Piazza Tasso

(ferries may or may not be running, depends how late in October this is and on the sea conditions)

From the other Pompeii entrance it's a bit if a walk to the Trenitalia train station-from there train to Salerno then ferry

Or private driver probably about 150 euros

Tim, I was going to Salerno after Pompeii, not Sorrento. Another poster told me this was the best way to get to Amalfi. So the post you are referring to has a different itinerary than mine.

I was going to Salerno after Pompeii, not Sorrento.

This was not really clear in your original post.
The link Tim posted has info for both ways- thru Sorrento or thru Salerno. If your bags are at the Porta Marina gate you should choose thru Salerno (3rd post)

mom, all the taxis, busses, two train companies, and private cars make the same trips in BOTH directions. I was offering you a discussion of travel between - Pompeii Scavi and Amalfi - that generalizes to many of the realities of transportation in this area. Sorry you felt that was useless to you.

Since you specify that your luggage will be at Porta Marina, but you have some interest in the "other" train, 3/4 mile from the Amfiteatro entrance to Pompeii Scavi, I am now adding a second previous discussion that you might be able to generalize to your actual needs.

When I am in a hotel, I usually ask them for the name of their land-services partner, for a car service. That worked well for us in Sorrento, we even got to charge the cars to our hotel bill. But their Sorrento company is of no use to you from Salerno. While the end of October is when many ferries routes (not 100%) shut down, past posts on this newsboard (Search box top center) often recommend ferries to Amalfi, because it is a major transportation hub.

It clearly says: "there is a train to Salerno and then bus to Amalfi." in my post

Yes it does say that but nowhere do you let us know that is what your goal is.
You are quoting a post from 2018

Your post says you are “going from Pompeii to our hotel in Amalfi”
You mention your luggage could be at either entrance
There are multiple ways to reach Amalfi from Pompeii

Your previous post here from just a week ago indicates you are going to Naples from Pompeii so I assume that has changed?

I pointed out that when searching you need to filter by Date or you’ll just pull up very old info.

The answers to your question are included in multiple posts on this forum, some very recent

I hope you find it gracious and positive that I included all the info you need to get yourselves from Pompeii to Amalfi both here and in other threads including links to train, bus and ferry schedules, driver recommendations etc.

I agree with Tim about asking your hotel to recommend a driver (if you decide to take that option).
I also like being able to charge the cost to my hotel bill.
I've been doing this in the past few years in various places in both Italy and in Spain, and it's always worked out well.
