Pompeii or Sorrento

On our upcoming trip we have the option of a tour to Pompeii or a combination tour to Pompeii and Sorrento. Should I add Sorrento and if so what do you recommmend as a "must see?"

Other than some palatial hotels perched on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Sorrento is a better "base" than a destination. You can easily get from Sorrento to Pompeii in about 15 minutes on the little commuter train.

Sounds as if you're locked in to some kind of tour group so you won't be allowed to spend the night. That's a shame because from Sorrento you can see Pompeii, the Isle of Capri, the dramtic Amalfi Coast, etc. Like I said it's a good base for daytrips.

You are correct. My husband received a cruise that limits our ability to do much exploring on our own. We are trying to make the most of each port. One trip option offers a 4 hour tour to Pompeii, but for $60 more you can add time in Sorrento. Any suggestions?

You don't need to see Sorrento. it's like a city on the coast of California. YOu are better off with a day trip to Pompei, and hopefully to Vesuvio too.

Sorrento is just a town...it's about shopping mostly. there is a lemon orchard, but that's about it. It is a great town to use as a base to explore the Amalfi coast.
