Pompeii/Naples tour

Does anyone know of a Pompeii/Naples day tour that leaves out of Sorrento? My sister and I cannot find one. Thanks.

On our trip, while staying in Sorrento, we took the train to Naples one day, and drove our rental car to Pompeii and other sights another day.

If you’re looking for a guided tour that includes transportation, have you booked your lodging yet? Can they offer any tour suggestions -maybeceven book it for you?

Pompeii is right on the train line between Naples and Sorrento. Take the train and there will be multi-guides waiting at the entrance. Talk with them, check their english. They will offer a variety of tours for 1, 2,3 hrs. We took a two hour tour of the highlights. Had a excellent over all tour. Then spend another two, three hours viewing some areas that we didn't visit or revisiting some of the areas that we quickly hit on the tour. I would sure on another day to visit the museum in Naples where as of the"stuff" from Pompeii including the special room that one time required a special permit from the pope to visit.

I'd guess that you are not seeing much for tours of BOTH Naples and Pompeii because it's simply too much ground to cover adequately in one day. I did find this Viator tour that is geared for cruiser-ship passengers with limited time.

Personally? I wouldn't touch it. They simply do not provide enough time to BEGIN to cover both Pompeii - which is vast - and a sizable Italian city. There also haven't been any reviews of this tour for over a year and there are many complaints about how rushed it is. Doesn't sound like they do much more than drive around in Naples. Viator is also a 3rd-party reseller and does not operate tours themselves. I can't tell which company is actually conducting this one.

So I think you'll need to make a decision between touring Naples or touring Pompeii? These tours have been very positively rated by RS travelers who've taken them:

You would need to get yourself to/from Pompeii yourself to meet your guide for the 2-hour walk but by local train, it's not difficult, time-consuming or expensive. Same with the 3-hour Naples walk: you would need to travel to/from the Naples meeting place on your own
