Pompeii in Mid-November

Can we drive from Rome or must we take a tour? Entrance Fees? Is it worth the trip?

I wouldn't consider driving. Most people take the train to Naples then the commuter train out to the site. It's very easy to do. You do not have to take a tour unless you want to but tours from Rome to Pompeii are very expensive and only give you a few hours in the site. You can hire a guide at the site if you wish. Only you can decide if it's worth the trip. I always enjoy a trip to Pompeii. I like seeing parts of the sites I haven't seen before. I also like visiting Herculaneum on the way. I actually prefer this site to Pompeii but it's not as large so I usually see both in the same day. Donna

Since you asked about November, the weather would be cooler and the crowds much less. However, if it's a rainy day, not as much fun, most of the site is outdoors with a few buildings where you go inside. Our first trip there it was drizzly with occasional wetter times and while we saw a lot, it was much more interesting our second trip when it was a nice day. The entrance fee and times are on the official site, www.pompeiisites.org, currently 11 euros, or a 20 euro combo ticket. I would not drive it, I would take the trains. It would be a very long day from Rome and only you know if it would be worth it to you.
