I’ve read many threads about how to hire a guide once at Pompeii, but could anyone offer the typical price for this? I’d likely be looking for a 2-3 hour tour for 3 people, and would prefer either private or small group (6-8 ppl) on a shared tour. Thanks.

In Matera, Italy, I paid 100 euro for a private guide. We spent a bit over 2 hours with her. She came highly recommended and we were happy with the tour. That said, I would have been just as happy with a small group as long as the guide was excellent. One thing I am careful about is that my husband is a bit hard of hearing and has always had a problem with accents. I'm careful about booking someone he will be able to understand.

RS recommends Mondo shared tours, which are small group, very inexpensive ( check their website) and use the earbuds and microphone system. We used them and it was a quality experience. Have a great time!
