The Pompeii guide in Rick's book "Snapshot Naples & the Amalfi Coast: Including Pompeii" 2016 edition is quite outdated. There has been a lot of restoration done since 2014. The Board of Cultural Heritage of Pompeii published a new Guide to Pompeii Excavations. You could get the pdf version on line: it is very explicit. Since 2014 many frescos were removed from the walls and brought to Naples museum for restoration, and they are appearing back on walls in all their glory, especially in Section I of the city as shown in the Guide. Areas of the city described by Rick in his book are mostly in a wall retention state, and are often fenced off from the public. Do get the Guide from the ticket office and follow it. It is amazing how much work did they do in two years.

@Kathy: Thanks very much for the link. The brochure is dated 2015, so I assume it is the current one. We are planning to visit Pompeii next year.

You're welcome, Robert! As far as being dated last year, not much at Pompeii has changed for, oh, a couple thousand years (other than digging it out) so the info on what you'll be seeing can be considered 'current.' :O)
