Hello all. If you’ve been to the Pompeii ruins recently do you recall if there were taxis readily available near the entrance? If not what about near the train station? We will be taking the train from Sorrento to the ruins in May and hoped to catch a taxi after our tour to have some lunch. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Officially in Italy you should only catch taxis at predesignated Taxi stands or by calling/scheduling them via an app. (There is usually and set added cost for calling a taxi to you.)
Looking for a taxi stand there is one right by the train station exit and near the entrance to the ruins:
TAXI POMPEI
Via Villa dei Misteri, 80045 Pompei NA, Italy +393382111287
So that seems pretty convenient to what you're looking for. If you are looking to go to lunch in Pompeii - the newer city part away from the scavi entrance - you used to be able to exit out into the city south of the Amphitheater more into the town itself.
There are several competing apps I was recommended to use for calling taxis. You might ask in Sorrento what the local favorite is for the area.

Thanks very much, Tod, that’s so helpful. I thought there might be an exit closer to where we hoped to go for lunch but having never been there, I wasn’t sure. So either way you help me find a solution. Thanks for your time!
