Has anyone used the Rick Steves audio tour in Pompeii? Would you recommend it? I'll be traveling with two adults and two teens, and I'm wondering if the audio tour would be easier (and less expensive) than paying for a guided tour. Thank you!
I did many years ago, even just following the written tour in the book (which is essentially a transcript of the audio tour) is helpful. You get a good overview of the highlights.
There is also an official app, MyPompeii, that you can download from the App Store or Google Play. It functions like an audio guide, with both narrative and pictures. It has other features to avoid crowds, since it was rolled out during covid, but overall it has good info.
We just got back from Italy and spent a day at Pompei. I found the written tour in Rick’s guidebook to be fine - all of the descriptive signs are in both Italian and English.
We used the RS audio tour 2 years ago and it was great!
