We are wanting to see Pompeii and Paestum in two days. We will be leaving Rome, taking the train to Paestum, overnight at Sorrento then the next day at Pompeii, then train back to Rome. I know many will say it's not enough time in Sorrento but we'll spend more time there on the next trip. My concern is the transportation between Paestum, Sorrento and Pompeii. Suggestions?
To go by bus from Salerno to Sorrento you would have to take two buses, the first Salerno to Amalfi and then change for the bus to Sorrento.

Another way, that has been available in previous years, would be by sea from Salerno to Sorrento. However, this year the service has not yet got going. There are all sorts of stories about the timing and liklihood of the service starting up. The money is on a reduced service for a reduced period! Keep an eye on this site if this option appeals to you.
Here is the site for the trains Sorrento to Naples via Pompeii.
Hi John,
We did the same trip last year, only in reverse (Sorrento - Paestum) and had a great time. What everyone just said is absolutely correct.
My only suggestion would be to double check bus schedules. Looking back I can laugh hysterically, but at the time due to ill preparation, I thought we missed the last bus and would be stuck in Paestum (3 hours from out hotel in Sorrento)... then again in Salerno... and then again in Amalfi. It worked out, but to avoid the stress and really relax and enjoy it, check the bus schedules.
