Does anyone know the new procedure for Pompeii? I know you have to book in advance because they are limiting daily attendance. We are going early June with another couple. We also would like to book a guide.
We were there a few weeks ago and I looked at booking in advance the day before our visit but all the times were still available so we just bought the tickets when we got there. (The benefit of being way off season!) I don’t have the url handy but it was easy to get as far as selecting a date and time.
If you plan to book a private guide then you may need to already have your tickets, but if you take a guided group tour it will include the tickets.
Good luck with the trip!
I do not think that they require booking in advance, but you can buy them via their site. https://pompeiisites.org/en/visiting-info/timetables-and-tickets/ The tickets are not timed, you just pick a day. They mention that they are "personalized" so you might want to bring your passport as ID. (Should have it on you anyway in Italy) On the linked page is a link to the ticket seller, Ticketone, toward the bottom of the page. I would avoid any third party sellers for just tickets.
For a guide, I do not recall if they have guides on hand that you can hire, but a number of people on here have used guides, including some Rick Steves recommended ones, those you need to arrange yourself, they may or may not include a ticket.
They did announce a cap of something like 20.000 visitors per day, but do not hit that often now, usually only on "free" days and a few days of peak months.
but if you take a guided group tour it will include the tickets.
Not all group tours include tickets. We used Mondo and were required to buy tickets on arrival while the guide waited. Their website still says tickets not included.
I was there in November 2024. Took the train from Naples. And here's where it got weird for me! There is an office almost immediately as you leave the station. Advertises Pompeii tickets. I thought this was the official ticket office. I go upstairs (?) buy a ticket and audio guide. Receive my ticket and audio guide and map. head into Pompeii. There there is a major, large, elaborate ticket entrance. I need to show the ticket I bought and ID. Recommendation: I would NOT buy a ticket at the "office" where I bought my ticket. Also my audio guide map did not align with Pompeii. Useless and I did not use it.
Lots of guides available and you might even be able to join with another tourist.
Oplantis at the Torre Annunizata train stop is part of the Pompeii ticket. Along with Villa Misteri it is a fabulous place and only myself and one other person were there.
