I'm visiting Pompei in early July this year and would also like to visit Mount Vesuvius. I've read the least expensive way to get there is to take the SITA bus from Pompei, stop near the amphitheater, to Vesuvius. Does anyone have any tips on how reliable taking this bus to Mount Vesuvius is. I'll be traveling with 4 young adults and planning to head up the mountain in the afternoon.
Any tips or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I took the bus from Pompeii to Mt. Vesuvius a few years ago. It took about an hour each way but was an easy trip. Bus departed from the Piazza Porta Marina Inferiore area, from adjacent to the building where the Ristorante Suisse if located on Google maps. Note that Pompei is the new town and you don't want to go there to get a bus to Mt. Vesuvius. Be sure to check return bus departure times as they may impact how much time you'll have to explore the top of Mt. Vesuvius. By that I mean you might have to wait an additional hour if you miss a particular bus back to Pompeii.
