Pompei Ticket Question

I have a 9 AM ticket to enter Pompei but stupidly did not check trains from Rome and am discovering I can't get there by that time and cannot change ticket entrance time. Should I (1) show up with that ticket at about 10:30 AM and try to get in and if I can't purchase a new ticket; or (2) just purchase a new ticket now?

Thanks for any help that can be offered!

You could Take the Intercity #701 that departs from Roma Termini at 6:26 and calls at Napoli Centrale at 8:29. If you run to the underground tracks and jump on the first Circumvesuviana train (direction Sorrento), you should arrive at the site gates around 9:50. Smile and tell it's all fault of Trenitalia being always late etc. etc.

Choosing a random date, I'm also seeing Frecciarossa 1000 9681 from Termini at 7:00; arriving in Napoli Centrale at 8:10. It's the first "fast" train of the day and takes just 1 hour/10 minutes. You probably can't make the 8:13 Circumvesuviana but can catch the 8:41, which arrives at Pompeii at 9:17. You'd still be late but not as late as 10:30 or 9:50.

If you were to go this route, buy your ticket from Rome to Naples in advance if you can get a nice price break on it.

Thanks, Kathy. The date is May 10. What app/web site are you looking at because I'm using Rail Europe and Rome to Rio, but I did not see those options this morning. Many thanks!

FYI, Rail Europe also does have the 7:00 departure for sale from $33 (about the same as Trenitalia's €28). The Italian trains are taking time to load lately, so you have to be a bit patient.

Kathy is using the official train site for Italy.

Yep, I was using the Trenitalia site and should have included that info. Had assumed you'd already explored schedules on that site so my bad.

Thanks for helping things along, Gerri! :O)

Sorry to budge in with an add-on Q.

We'll be in the area in less than 2 weeks.
Pompeii opens at 9. Isn't that for 'general admission?'
If so, what do you mean that you have a ticket for 9AM.

Thanks.

When I purchased the ticket, I had a range of times to choose from. I selected 9 AM.

This is a general admission ticket from what I am understanding. There are no other ticket times open except for 0830 and 0900.

"Smile and tell it's all fault of Trenitalia being always late etc. etc."

That's so funny, Dario!
I've travelled on many trains in Italy since 1986, and not once has one ever been late leaving, or arriving! :)
Just an urban myth? or am I just lucky on the right days?!
