Pompei & Naples weekdays vrs weekend?

Hello, I am hoping for some insight. We are planning to visit Naples & Pompei (the Archaeological sites) for about a week at the end of June. Would one be particularly more accessible or busy on a weekday vrs weekend?

Pompeii has been a special Interest of our childs for many years. So, we are planning to stay in Pompei near the Archaeological Park of Pompeii for a few days. This way we can take our time, go to the sites more than once and see everything possible. It is very appleaing go be able to walk to the park early in the morning, rest middayand buy return entres for late afternoon if we want.

In Naples we plan to visit the Archaeology Museum in Naples, take the Underground Tour, a Food Tour, and a partial day of sailing. Ideally staying centerally located to some of those options.

We plan to stay 3-4 nights in each city. So, one of the locations would end up being over the weekend. Would one be better than another over the weekend?

Thank you.

I was In Naples in Nov/Dec 2024 for 10 days. Museum is closed on Tuesday. Be sure to check out Opolontis which was not crowded, actually at 9am on a Sunday me and an other guy and is part of your Pompeii ticket. Make sure on your Pompeii ticket you can exit and re-enter. I thought you could get 2 days tickets but not clear on exit and re-entry. Wear sturdy shoes as cobblestones are murder on your feet. Villa dei Misteri is wonderful but an extra 8euros. I would try to see that first so if lucky it might be only you and your family. There is also an entry to Pompeii by the Villa.

We were in Naples on a Saturday in late April 2023 and the old quarters was wall to wall people; locals and tourists. I don't know if it's always that crazy but my 5' tall wife didn't see a lot in crowded streets. I agree with Janet to consider Oplontis in mid-day as Pompeii gets crowded. It's one train station north of Pompeii and there is also a shuttle bus to get you there. The bus isn't well signed though.

If planning on multiple visits, buy the My Pompeii Card. The 3-day pass only allows a single entry to each site it covers.

For the Villa dei Misteri do you enter through the main park?? Or is that a different entrance?

I was surprised when I read one of the previous comments that Villa Misteri was an additional €8. That wasn't the case when we visited in April 2023 so maybe my info is old now. We used the main gate and visited Misteri later in the day and didn't have to enter through a different gate.
