I want to fly into Pompei, rent a car and drive to Normandy, then fly home from there. I also want to stop in Rome, Milan, Florence, and Paris. I am planning to do it eight or so days. Am I crazy, or is it feasible?

As far as I know, there is no airport in Pompei. You could fly into Naploli or Salerno.
One challenge you will have, besides a long drive in 8 days, is renting a car that you can take one way and cross borders. No doubt you can do it, but at a high price.
Rome2Rio.com indicates it will take 19 hours of driving time. Assuming you can drive the longest stretch from Milano to Paris in one day (9 hours), the other legs are relatively easy. But you will have precious little time in each location, maybe 2 days for Roma (inlcuding driving there from Napoli), 2 for Firenze (including driving in), 1 for Milano (including drive in from Firenze, which is 3+ hours), 1 full day of driving, 2 for Paris but you'd have to leave time to drive to Normandy, 2-3 hours.
Feasible, yes, but why would you want to?

You would drive more than you actually got to see anything....in the 8 days.
Do it w/o the car. See what you want in Italy...with Milan being your last stop and take a 35 euro easyjet flight from Milan to Paris to wrap up your trip.
Still...it would be hectic.

All you would see would be road signs, with no chance to visit any of these wonderful cities. In 8 days, why not consider Pompei, Rome & Florence?

Just to give you an idea of the time spent...everytime you change locations you tend to loose
part of a day.
- Flight to Napoli Capodichino (NAP)
- Arrive Napoli, jet lagged...Alibus>Napoli Centrale (30 min.)check luggage at either Naples or Pompeii stations...Circumvesuvian>Pompeii Scavi (Garibaldi station is located in the lower level of Centrale) 42 min. Reverse to get back to Naples.
- Are you going to spend the night?
- Naples Centrale>Roma Termini...1H20min...how many nights?
- Evening train...Roma Termini>Firenze SMN...1H35min. Nights?
- Evening flight Florence (FLR).Paris (Orly) 4H29m.
- Train Paris>Caen 1H58m each way.
- Travel home.
Either choose fewer destinations, of extend your trip. Each of these cities deserves at least 3 days.
