We are leaving for Italy on Saturday 3/31-4/9. We'll be in Tuscany for the first half of the week and Rome for the second half. I live in Atlanta. Pollen season has hit us and my teenage son is suffering w/ allergies. I'm wondering if we can expect the same in Italy. Do I need to pack some allergy meds.? Also, what's the most accurate website for weather in Italy? I've been checking the weather for next week and the forecast varies a lot from website to website.

Better to be safe than sorry, pack the meds. I have found that different pollen than I am used to can aggravate my allergies, even if it isn't high season when I visit.

Yep, you don't know what you'll encounter. When we lived in Poland, my DH, who suffers from very few allergies, was gobsmacked by flowering chestnut and cottonwood trees. (We have lots of cottonwood trees in Oklahoma, but most of them are non-flowering.)

Our first trip to Tuscany was in the month of June - my husband suffered terribly our whole trip - bring whatever allergy meds your son needs!

To reinforce what others have said . . . Take the meds. Twice we have been in Tuscany in the spring. The landscape was gorgeous with wild flowers and flowering trees. I could hardly see it through my swollen eyes. Even if what your son takes is otc, you will be shocked at the price. I ran out of my sudafed. I could get it, but it cost around 1 euro/pill. (The trade-off is that prescription meds are way cheaper than in the U.S.)

Fellow allergy sufferer here. Be advised: It is not possible to purchase Benadryl or generic equivalent in Italy. Not even with a prescription. So be sure to take enough.
