Polignano a mare

Hi I was wondering if anyone has been to the little town of Polignano a mare. Is it worth the trip? I am interested in the cool restaurant in the cave. Thank you, Doreen

I've seen mixed reviews of the cave restaurant--and there are SO many world class restaurants in Puglia I'd prioritize places that get more consistent raves.
The town is cute, being dramatically situated on the cove. Definitely worth visiting as a stopover or brief stay--it has many fans. I never made it there, stayed in neighboring Monopoli, a great food town!

While I have not been to the restaurant, I did spend half a day in Polignano a Mare. I enjoyed it and its worth a stop.

The food is not the best in Puglia, but it's not awful. Far from that.

People go there for the terrific views and the owners have not run the risk of hiring a "famous chef" after Covid. They may have a point, but I think that 195 Euro per person is too expensive for a not-starred restaurant.

Polignano is very nice and, in summer, it's also very crowded.

Two really good restaurants in caves in old town Ostuni:

Osteria Monacelle (our #1 favorite place on our two week Puglia trip in 2018 ---- it's very small and modest)

Vicolo 45 (bigger cave)

Lots of restaurants in caves in nearby Matera, too.

We thought Polignano a Mare seemed a bit too heavily touristed --- signs of it even in March. Cool pebble beach between cliffs, though.
