So, I've booked several tickets and received (SOME)email confirmations complete with the PNR codes and the black/white square that smart phones use. However, two of my ticket purchases I did not receive the email. I do have the PNR codes, just no black/white square thing - (what are those called anyway?) Am I going to be okay with just the PNR CODES? Thanks
Just got back from our trip to Italy. Went from Rome to Florence & Florence to Venice. Had bought mini tix for wife & I before we left. All I brought on the train was the email confirmation. The conductor looked at it & put the code into his PDA & that was it.
black/white square thing = QR Code. You will probably be fine with just the PNR but you really should also have the CP codes which are different for each person in your party.
PNR codes will work. The conductors on the fast trains carry wireless PDAs. They just plug in your PNR number and the system takes care of the rest.
Thanks for the clarification guys- you are most helpful.
My email confirmation had ONE PNR code for both me & my wife.
Mark, DO read the following article (the entire article!) concerning (missing) PNR codes; if you're purchsing more tickets, it could save you a lot of trouble: http://www.roninrome.com/transportation/ticket-purchasing-issues-using-the-trenitalia-website#more-17841
Eileen - Thanks for the link - that link is what enabled me to retrieve the PNR codes from two ticket purchases made without registering - I'll never do that again.
Ron in Rome is a terrific help!!
