I did a query on the following topic and got what could possible be conflicting information. I purchased a point to point Le Frecce train ticket on Trenitlia's web site and received an email confirmation with a PDF containing the seat number, PNR and CP. Do I need to use the ticket machine at the station to get a "ticket" before getting on the train or am I good to go with my PDF? Do I need to do any validating ? Thank-you in advance.
No ticket purchased on trenitalia.com needs to be validated. A ticket purchased online can't be re-used anyway, therefore printing day & time on it would be pointless.
The conductor will ask for the PNR code, that's your authority to travel, You can recite the PNR, otherwise you can show it using a display, a piece of paper or the back of your hand... it doesn't matter.
Thank-you Dario. One less detail to deal with.
I take a screenshot of the e-ticket/confirmation with the PNR and save it to the Photos app on m phone, That way I'm not looking through emails etc for it. I love when the conductor zooms in when he or she can't read the small code.
The PDF is your ticket, that is all you need.
Just print it out, bring it with you and that is what you show on the train.
No validating as it already says on it which train it is valid for.
