I haven't traveled to Europe in such a long time - before cell phones and laptops, etc. I'm wondering if it is safe to use just a regular plug adaptor to charge my phone an laptop or if I need to get something fancier? Any advice? Thanks!
Look on the label on your charger (you may need a magnifying glass).
- If it says "110V 60Hz", it only works on North American electricity and you need a voltage converter.
- If it says "110-240V 50-60Hz" (and most do) it will work on both systems, you just need a plug adpator.
You will probably want to bring more than one plug adapter, or a plug adapter that allows a 3-prong US multiple plug assembly to be plugged into it. Some plug adapters still only have the 2 plug holes and don't allow a US 3-prong plug to be plugged in.
This allows you to charge more than one device at a time in Europe.
Thanks everyone!!!
And if you're renting a car while you're there, definitely bring along the cigarette lighter charger. No adapter needed with that!
I bring a long three or four that I bought from Rick Steves store and we have not had any problems at all, we use them for my curling Iron, Ipad, Iphone and camera charger.
