A few questions for before giving a better response. Where will you be coming from in Switzerland? Do you already have flights arranged to get to/from Europe? If so, where do you fly into/out of? What do you like to do? Hiking, museums, gelato, etc.?

If you have 7nights, 6 full days, you have time for no more than two stops in Italy. Obviously Rome is one of them. I suggest you try for 3 nights each in Florence and Rome.

Daily planning is hard to do for someone else. Rick Steves' guidebook has excellent advice on how to plan your days in each city.

I suggest taking the Bernina Express train from Switzerland into Italy and make an overnight stop in Varena to enjoy some walking along Lake Como and maybe take a ferry boat to Belagio for a short visit. After Varenna, take the train to Florence for 3 days. You can easily spend all 3 days here, but I would consider a day trip to Siena as well. Finish your trip Rome. An alternative would be to visit the Cinque Terre after immediately Switzerland. Getting there really depends on where you will be in Switzerland but you could potentially fly into Pisa or Genoa and take the train the rest of the way, or you could just take the train. I would spend 2-3 days here visiting the towns and hiking. From there take the train to Pisa for a few hour stop over to see the Leaning Tower and then head into Rome ( this will take up one day). Spend the the last 3 days in Rome.

Once you have Switzerland figured out, you can better plan Italy. For flights, check skyscanner.com and check seat61.com to get the best information on train travel.

I suggest taking a train from Switzerland to Varenna (as previous poster said).
Day 1 and 2 Stay a night or two at Lake Como.

Then train to Florence for a night. (Day 3) I think one night is enough with children. You would need more time for museums. Climb the duomo.

Day 4 Train to Rome with a stop in Orvieto or Siena, depending on what you are interested in.

Day 5-6-7 Spend your remaining time in Rome.
