Please recommend a tour in Assisi

I will be visiting Assisi for the 2nd time this time with my husband. His visit is a first and I am wondering if it makes sense to book a tour? Can someone recommend a person or tour company? Also if anyone has a tip for a lunch place thank you

Susanne,

I met Anne on my last visit to Assisi and although I just chatted with her over lunch, she was very interesting and knowledgeable. The prices may change depending on the Itinerary, so just send her an E-Mail. She will also be able to provide a good recommendation for place to have lunch.

I just used the RS free audio download and toured myself. It worked well for me. For a good lunch restaurant - my family and I enjoyed Trattoria da Erminio. Authentic food, moderate prices, Umbrian wines. It's close to San Ruffino Church. Just look it up online.

One of the best restaurants we ate at in Italy was in Asissi. Tavern de L'Arco. Great food. Reasonable prices. One of the owners has lived in the US, his English is perfect. We used RS audio guide as well. It worked well.

No guide advice, but I can recommend a cooking class just a few miles from Assisi.
Look up Madonna Del Piatto. My wife and I stayed at the B&B a few years ago, and took a cooking class.
It is owned by Letizia Mattiacci, who gave up a career in academics to come home and start a B&B.
The class starts with a tour of a shop, and tastings of wines, oils, and meats. Then, a day in the kitchen learning the secrets of Umbrian/Sicilian cooking.

She is very well reviewed and has a great blog. She also has a cookbook that is awesome if you like real Italian food.
Since we stayed there, we have become great friends, and we are returning for an entire week with her in October.

Maybe not what you were looking for, but truly a memorable experience if you want to experience the real Umbria.
