I also recommend the Taverna San Trovaso suggested above. I try to go there at least once when in Venice.

Also try:
Osteria Cicchetteria Aea Canevassa
Bacaro 22 vintido'

Google the names on Google Maps to see the locations.

to reserve call (or have your hotel call for you) or just pass by earlier in the day.

Osteria Mocenigo https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d780766-Reviews-Osteria_Mocenigo-Venice_Veneto.html (we stopped by earlier in the day and made a reservation for dinner as this place was a short walk from our hotel)

Rossopomodoro https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d3603071-Reviews-Rossopomodoro_Venezia_San_Marco-Venice_Veneto.html (very casual, never needed reservatioins)

Ristorante San Trovaso https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d3217087-Reviews-Ristorante_San_Trovaso-Venice_Veneto.html (for seafood), you can make reservations on their website https://www.ristorantesantrovaso.it/

In December last year, during a 10-night stay, our favorites were:

La Rampa in Venice (also on a previous trip)

Osteria La Zucca (also on two previous visits)

Osteria da Pampo in Castello was good and lively

La Palanca on the Giudecca — workers ate there early when we did and then regular customers came in at 1:30pm

Fun to eat at the canal-side place unpromisingly named Very Good, but it was very good

Ca’ d’oro alla Vedova (how restaurant spells it on Facebook) just a few feet off the busy Strada Nova —- nice meatballs!

Just a comment—-Ristorante San Trovaso is a more upscale, more expensive place than Taverna San Travaso (they are not connected, by the way). We dined at the Ristorante last September with our family and it was lovely—-but quite expensive compared to the Taverna.

Thanks for these suggestions! We’ll be in Venice at the end of June and I am just starting to research restaurants.

Osteria Antico Giardinetto in the Santa Croce area is wonderful.

Our favorite was osteria Da Bubi not far from St Marks Square. Delicious seafood starters and pasta. Not too pricey either.

I was about to jump in with Rossopomodoro Mary! HAHAHA

I went there because the only time I was in Venice I got annoyed that I couldn't find anything on the menus I wanted to eat (apparently I'm a southern Italy food snob hahahaha). I had passed it the previous day, and I said "Neapolitan food! YES PLEASE!" so we ate there :)

It's a chain, but I love it....and they sure know how to make pizza :)

Trattoria Da Marco Valla Fava on Calle Stagneri in the Rialto Bridge area. It is a bit on the pricey side, so you might want to do lunch rather than dinner. Some of the best sea food ever!! Try to eat inside rather than outside. The place has been around at least 50 years so they must be doing it right. Never had to have a reservation for lunch.

Also in the Rialto area ( but on the other side of the Grand Canal) when walking to Piazzale Roma is an out of the way place named Pane Vino e San Daniele on Calle Dei Boteri. Definitely a hole in the wall local place, good food, good house wine, and not expensive at all.

Many canal side places are lack quality, but don't lack for prices. There is an exception. It is Trattoria Da Giorgia ai Greci. It is very close to San Marco, but well away from the crowds, and has really good food.

Our favourite was seafood at Riviera, which is on the Zattere directly opposite the Molino Stucky hotel.

We also enjoyed coffee and liqueurs in St. Marks Square with the orchestras playing. Not cheap but completely magical.
