Use Italian spellings on the Trenitalia site

Florence is Firenze (S.M.N. station probably)
Venice is Venezia (Santa Lucia station)

You can also try the site www.trainline.eu - that will show Italo trains too.

Hi Andrew,

Oic. Then, there is different stations in Florence, so it depends on where I stay to catch the station, correct ?

Any idea on which route ( question above) is better to take ?

The ticket fare is cheaper on first train website because its operating in Italy ?

There are two train companies operating in Italy: Trenitalia (the national company) and Italo (smaller, newer, private company). Italo provides trains on some of the same routes as Trenitalia.

The Trenitalia site is for Trenitalia trains only. Italo has its own site - I've never used it or them but would if they had better prices on routes I wanted to take.

The Trainline site is a third party site that should be the same price for Trentailia trains as the company site. It also includes the Italo trains. So you could use this site for everything - prices should be the same. Some people prefer using the company sites directly instead of a third party booker like Trainline. But it probably doesn't matter much.

I don't know the best routes. I'd use the websites listed above and check various connections. You might also plot cities on a Google Map (even though you won't drive) to get an idea of the most practical links distance-wise between cities - I do that too when I plan trips.

Most people use the Florence S.M.N. train station but sometimes one of the other stations is closer to your lodgings.

In Florence you most likely want to travel to/from Firenze SMN station. A few direct trains direction Verona/Bolzano call only at Campo di Marte. All the other stations are for regional travel only.

We used the Campo di Marte station when travelling from Florence to Verona so I assume coming from Verona to Florence would be the same station. In order to experience the core of Florence we did have to take a taxi to this station for an early train. It is a distance from the Duomo and sites. Make sure in going to Florence and you want to attend the Uffizi museum you go on line to get your tickets in advance. See RS guide on Florence. Also the Accademia Museum that has the David we went around 4.15-4.30 and there were no crowds at all.
