Folks,
We need to attend on the 7th of Sep and its already booked. I thought I was tracking this closely and all availability is gone. Can some one please tell me how can I book a tour for that date? We are in Rome from 4th to 9th Sep and they do guided tour only on Tues, Thurs and Sat. We reach Rome on Sat and leave on Thurs!! Can I give them a call? Family of 3 (including baby), chose for guided tour for individuals.
Where is the website where you can buy tickets?
They haven't released those dates yet. You can tell as there is nothing available after the 6th. they only book out by about 60 days. Sometimes it is a little more, most of the time it's a little less. Don't panic just keep checking the site.

The tickets have only been released through the 6th so far....
Donna is right...they only release/confirm tix about 60 days out. You didn't mention where you are checking, but I've always had good luck with Select Italy, and guided tour dates offered might be different...sometimes this depends on the tour company that is contracted. You might also check with Viator.
I am looking on the official site. I assume they have they are better tour guides than going private? I will go with Angel tours if I can't get in for the 7th through the Vatican. Any opinions about vaticans guides?
The vatican guides are very good. They know their stuff. No sense paying a private company for the same tour the vatican offers. Check on Monday to see if they have released dates from the 7th on.
Just as an F.Y.I. and to reassure you, they were also late in releasing tickets for May and June. They were about a week late of the 60 day mark. You'll be able to get your tour as they offer at least two a day in English.

What is the best time to go for the tour? I've heard Sistine Chapel is beautiful to see in the mornings, but with the tour, we'll be able to see at the very end, possibly when its overcrowded. Can we walk the distance to visit it and spend sometime there ourselves before the tour starts or that won't be possible?
Unless you are at the museums when they open and rush the half hour walk to the chapel it will be crowded. It is always crowded with the exception of the first few minutes after opening. If you make a reservation for a tour they will only let you in about half an hour before the tour starts so you won't be able to see the chapel before the tour.
The vatican museums tour ends just before entering the Sistine Chapel. They give you a wonderful explanation of the artwork before you approach the chapel so you have a full understanding of what you are seeing.
