My husband, two daughters and I will be visiting Vernazza in August 2008. I have narrowed our stay down to one of two private rooms. Camere Nicolina, a quad with terrace and view or Camere Francamaria, room #1 (quad with view but no terrace). If you have stayed at either of these places, I'd like your feedback - reliability of booking, cleanliness, noise level, charm, etc...
Hello, I have stayed in the exact room you are considering at Franca Maria. It is a beautiful location, she and her husband are very hospitable. The room was clean and would be well suited for 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 12-13, I think it would be difficult for 4 adult "sized" folks. The window that looks in to the harbor provides a beautiful birds-eye view of the evening hours with the locals and fabulous views of fisherman at sea in the morning. Directly across from your window are residences and the church (beautiful@sunset) It is located at the "end" of the main drag and the bottom of a steadily declining hill, that must be climbed again to reach the train station (not difficult but noticible). Even though Franca Maria may struggle with English, she makes every effort.. ..correspondence was easy and quickly responded to. I cannot comment on noise level accurately as we were there in December.
Have you searched www.tripadvisor.com to see if there are any reports there by people who have stayed at those two places?
My wife and I just stayed in a Camere Nicolina room last month. The room isn't one that was on their website, it was off of Via San Giovanni Battista and had a queen and what appeared to be a trundle that was like two twins when pulled out. The room was quite large w/ terrace and had a nice view of the town and hills behind it. The folks who run Nicolina were very friendly and were expecting us when we arrived, which we were a little worried about because there was no formal reservation conf. # or anything. My only complaint is that the bathroom was cramped and not as functional as I would have liked. There was no shower stall (tub with spray head) and the toilet is cramped between the tub and wall. Hope this helps!
