Please critique our itinerary....

I need some feedback on the following itinerary. We fly into Rome on 6/3 and fly out on 6/19. We have to be in Rome for a wedding on 6/7. We'll take the train between the destinations:

Rome (6/3-6/10): Some day trips to Siena and Ostia Antica (instead of Pompeii).

Padua (6/10-6/13): Base ourselves in Padua and day trip to Venice, Verona, and Vicenza.

Florence (6/13-6/18): Most of the stuff we want to see is here. We'll also do day trips to Pisa and Cinque Terre.

Rome (6/18-6/19)

Any thoughts?

I agree, Siena makes a better daytrip from Florence. It's 3-hour each way from Rome! Instead visit Orvieto - a wonderful hill-top town in Umbria. It's only an hour by train from Rome.

I agree with Christopher. The CT is definitely NOT a day trip and something you don't want to miss. We could only get one nights lodging there and did a day trip from Florence before going for two more days. Takes a few hours by train and you get to look around, but nothing serious and just enough to make you want to go back. Think about staying less in Rome and more in Florence, and taking a day trip by tour bus to Siena (55 Euros), which also includes a beautiful hill town nearby called San Gimignano. To fully enjoy the CT, you need at least two full days (eat the grapes, which are almost as good as the wine). Pisa is OK, but after you've seen the tower, it's all downhill after that.

To clarify, the day trip to Siena I mentioned earlier is from Flroence, not Rome. Just caught that it was ambiguous. Sorry.

Maybe consider leaving Rome earlier (8th?) Do Siena from Florence, and Ostica Antica is really no more than a half day itinerary in Rome as opposed to a day trip. Maybe add a day to Venice, after Florence, hit Pisa as you go by (a few hours is all that is needed) on your way to the CT for 2 nights before you head back to Rome.

The cinque terre are about 2:30-3 hours from Florence...instead of going as a day-trip stay a night, giving yourself a day or day and a half to explore.

Cheers.
