Please advise on itinerary for Italy in May

Hi,

I think I am finally close to finalising this itenary but would like some opinions before I do.

Just in breif I will be travelling with my husband and we are both 41 and travelling without children. This is our first real trip to Europe and although my husband is not into the arts I plan on seeing a few places. We want to get into the culture and see as much as we can. Both our parents were (only 1 alive out of the four)from Italy we only have childhood memories of stories they had told. This is the plan so far:

Day 1 30/04 Arrive in Paris from Sydney

Day 2 01/05 Paris

Day 3 02/05 Paris

Day 4 03/05 Fly to Pisa ...then train to Cinque T

Day 5 04/05 Cinque Terre

Day 6 05/05 Cinque Terre

Day 7 06/05 Train from Cinque Terre (Pisa) to Venice

Day 8 07/05 Venice

Day 9-16 08/05- 5/05 Depart Venice for Greek Island cruise

Day 17 16/05 Train from Venice to Florence

Day 18 17/05 Florence

Day 19 18/05 Florence

Day 20 19/05 Train from Florence to Rome

Day 21 20/05 Rome

Day 22 21/05 Rome

Day 23 22/05 Rome

Day 24 23/05 Train from Rome to Sorrento

Day 25 24/05 Sorrento

Day 26 25/05 Sorrento

Day 27 26/05 Sorrento

Day 28 27/05 Trainto Naples...fly back to Paris

Day 29 28/05 Fly home :(

I am not sure if I have too many days in Sorrento, we want to do Pompeii, Amalfi Coast, Isle of Capri and Positano.

Would you advise to cut this back and add to Florence or Rome?

You do not have too many days in Sorrento. You can spend one going to Pompeii, another going to Capri, and another going over to Positano.

Hi Rosemarie. I think your itinerary looks pretty solid. In terms of adding to Florence or Rome, it really depends on what you plan to see/do in each place. I would go through Rick's guidebooks & compile a list of what you want to see in each place & this will dictate the number of days you'll need. I think 2.5 days in Florence & 3.5 days in Rome is okay. I personally loved Rome & had a long laundry list of things I wanted to see there so I would opt to add a day to Rome if possible but you would probably need to take it away from Sorrento to add to Rome and I would advise against this. You will need all 3 days in Sorrento to see the things you mentioned. I would leave your itinerary as is. Have a wonderful trip.
