We enjoy playing bocci at our home in the U.S. and would love have a few rounds while we are in
Italy this fall. We are staying in Venice, Flrenze Assisi, Monopoli and Napoli. We would welcome suggestions for any of these cities where we might be able to get in some bocci time. (We are not traveling with our own equipment).
It is bocce
If you see people playing, don't hesitate to ask to play bocce with them. Even if you don't know a word of Italian, just try to communicate with hands and feet :-) I'm sure you'll end up with a fun time and new Italian friends.
And remember if you pronounce it the way most Americans do, you'll be asking to join them in kisses. "Bocce" is pronounced like "BOH-tsheh", not "BAH-tshih"
I dunno. I am likely wrong as everyone thinks differently. I can't imagine hanging out with friends after a day, or a week, of work, catching up, having a brew, playing some game, and having some tourists want to join in because they want an "authentic" experience.
jkc, I have watched the guys playing bocce and it gets quite competitive; I agree with you, I would get the lay of the land first. Sometimes a stranger is invited to play.
Yes watching and getting invited to join is quite different.
