Planning two days from Salerno.

Ferry to Positano? Or ferry to Amalfi? Bus back? We are based out of a bed and breakfast in Salerno for two days. We covered Salerno on foot. We will be going to Napoli and going to Pompeii then (later). Have two days to explore Salerno and Amalfi coast area. Open to advice. I would like to go to Ravello...but not sure my family wants to stray from the sea.

Both Positano and Amalfi are reachable by the same ferry from Salerno.....I would say do 2 of the 3 cities, if you include Ravello....it will be a lot of moving around, I would either do Amalfi and Ravello or Amalfi and Positano. That could be one of your days, and then I would either do Paestum (and an afternoon visit to Vietri), Capri, or the other one that you didn't do, the previous day, like Positano.....but I would probably go for something different than the sea, like Paestum with the ancient Greek Temples....

Ferry. Salerno-Amalfi.
8:40 or 9:40.

Climb the steps to the Dumo then visit the Cloisters of Paradise. Explore Amalfi.
Or take a short 15 minute walk to Atrani. Small beach in Atrani and Amalfi.

Bus to Ravello. Visit Villa Climbrone.

Bus back to Salerno.

Day 2. Train to Paestum. Some of the best persevered Greek temples anywhere. Your girls are old enough to appreciate them.

Or ferry to Capri. This basically will take all day. Lots of beaches.

Or bus to Positano. Beautiful town, tucked into a hillside.
Not much to do but shop and relax. This might bore the girls.
But it has a beach 😀. Then bus to Vietri sul Mare and back to Salerno.

If I remember correctly, the return trip by bus to Salerno would be 2 hours from Positano with a change at Amalfi, or 1 hour from Amalfi with no bus change.

Your last sentence means that you will probably be better served chilling out & staying near a beach at Positano for your time left rather than attempt to hit every attraction. Naples and Pompeii on the same day is a lot to ask.
