Planning our Itenerary

We are traveling to Frankfurt May 4-May 9 and then on to Italy May 10-17.
We need help with selections of travel spots and travel mode to get from place to place.
We prefer countryside, wineries, local interaction, olives, goats, horses, fabric, cooking class, etc; not so much with monuments, etc.
We think an air BNB might be best and we think the Tuscany area is a good choice.
We are open to assistance from a travel guide.
I have read Steve's books but need to work with a guide.
Can you offer that?

Thanks,
Diane Parson

We're just volunteers who share our love of travel and Italy.
Italy is such an easy place to travel--what is it you feel you need assistance with? Rick's books and any guide book spell it out pretty well.

Based on your criteria, I would recommend Tuscany. It is quite a hike from Frankfurt to "Italy". I would check a flight from Frankfurt to Florence. It is a 10 hour train adventure. Here is a Tuscany site that is real informative. https://www.discovertuscany.com/

You will fly into Frankfurt and can fly out of Rome. From Frankfurt to Tuscany region, you will have to take a plane (RyanAir or EasyJet airlines). Fly from Frankfurt to Pisa, Italy. Too long of a distance for a train ride from Frankfurt. When you get to Tuscany, either base yourself in Lucca or Pienza to explore the Tuscan countryside and villages. You might need to rent a car to visit multiple villages. I suggest a stay at an Agriturismo. There ,you will be expose to as you mentioned wineries, local interaction, olives, goats, horses, fabric, and cooking class. Then from Lucca, Take train to Rome morning of May 14th, a day before your departure to head home.

I have listed some agriturismos on the links below and cooking class

Hi Diane, and welcome to the forum.

As mentioned above, we're volunteers on this forum, hundreds with many trips to Italy.
If you could narrow down the places you want to visit in Tuscany, it would enable us to help with your search and finding a central base for you to travel to/from.

Are you planning on renting a car, or only using public transportation? Having your own vehicle in Tuscany makes it easier than using infrequent trains and busses.

The best way to connect Frankfurt and Tuscany
Would be to fly to Florence. Air Dolimiti has four flights a day taking 1:30.

Read their luggage requirements carefully.
