I am in the planning stages of a 2 week trip to Italy. I been to Venice, Florence and Rome. I am now interested in seeing more of the smaller, hill towns. I am considering the following: 1 Fly to Florence 2 Florence 3 Siena 4 Cinque Terra 5 Rome 6 Rome 7 Rome 8 Sorrento/Positano 9 Sorrento/Positano 10 Almafi 11 Almafi 12 Almafi 13 Rome
14 Flight Home I really want to go to Sorrento down the Almafi Coast. I trying to figure out how to make the most use of my time. Am I spending too many days in one place??? I need to make it back to Rome for a flight out to San Francisco. Any suggestions you have would be helpful. Thank you.

If you say you have already been to Rome and Florence, other than the day of your flights, why are you going back? If, indeed you want to spend time in small hill towns, then I think that is where you might focus. I would pick a cool hill town in Tuscany and stay a number of days, rent a car and do day trips to all the surrounding hill towns. Unless you venture out of the touristy areas, if you are going in the summer, it is likely to be over crowded and possibly not the experience you are looking for. Positano, Amalfi, Cinque Terre will all be packed with people during the summer. Although all are worth seeing...

Either skip the CT or skip Florence. You don't have time for both and it is a LONG trip to the CT for one day. In fact, if you really lust after the AC and environs. fly in and out of Rome and skip the north this time. You can maybe take a break from Rome and go to nearby Orvieto for a couple of nights change of pace. Put Rome at the end of your trip so you aren't checking in and out twice on one city.

Since you've been to the the big 3, what about something like this: You can base in Siena and tour the hilltowns in the area. Orvieto is on the way to Roma Termini so a one night stop over is doable. 1 Fly to Florence - train to CT 2 CT 3 CT 4 Siena 5 Siena 6 Siena 7 Orvieto 8 Sorrento / Positano 9 Sorrento / Positano 10 Almafi 11 Almafi 12 Almafi 13 Rome

Is your flight locked in? I would fly in and out of Naples (thats hat I did), and: 1.fly to Naples. 2. Naples 3. Train to Sorrento (3 nights) tour Sorrento 4. Tour Pompeii 5. Sorrento 6. Bus to Positano, (2 nights) 7. Positano 8. Bus to Amalfi (3nights) 9. Amalfi. 10. Day trip to Ravello 11. Boat to Capri (2nights) 12. Capri 13. Naples
