Planning help needed itinerary starting in Sestri Levante moving onward to Tuscany/Northern Italy

My husband and I want to explore Sestri Levante(where my family is from) staying 4 nights then moving on to Tuscany-Florence possibly then to Northern areas such as Verona/Lake Garda leaving from Venice. We need help planning it all. We are flexible willing to change itinerary. I also wanted to see Umbria/Perugia if possible. The total length of trip about 3 weeks. Thank you.

Great plan! I typed up a long reply and an error ate it, so I'll just ask this time: what is it you need help with? Airports, order, transport? Is anything booked yet (like flights)? Knowing what you need helps us target responses, and you have a good start and just need to put it together. Knowing what month and if you are open to driving for part of it or want to stick with public transport will help too. good luck!

Here's what I would do (but without putting in how many nights in each place because I don't know your interests, time of year, or ability to rent a car and drive in Italy):

Fly into Venice (excellent place to get over jet lag, harder to depart from because of the mostly 6:00am flights out)

Train to Verona (about 1 hour)

Train to Genoa (about 3 hours), then to Sestri Levante (another 30 minutes)

Train to Florence (about 2.5 hours)

Rent a car to see towns in Tuscany or else choose ones like Lucca with train stations

You could take a train from Florence to Perugia or Orvieto (1.5 hours)

Fly home from Florence (or, if you add Perugia or Orvieto, fly home from Rome) --- Florence also has a lot of 6:00am flights but it is super easy to book an early morning taxi)

All very doable! Lots more information available here about all of this!
