We are planning a day trip from Sorrento to Capri at the end of September. We have arranged for a 9:00-noon boat tour and need to get ourselves to Capri in time. We will be free to explore in the afternoon prior to returning to Sorrento later in the day. Is it necessary to book a ticket online ahead of time to ensure we get there in time for 9:00 am? Is it necessary to book the return trip ahead of time for one of the last couple of ferries (giving us enough time to explore on our own)?
If you didn't have the deadline at Capri, then I wouldn't bother to book the ferry crossing in advance. But buying online (or in person a day ahead) could help you skip early morning stress or arriving to the ticket office earlier than otherwise necessary. (You can probably guess that I'm not a morning person.)
