Planning 2024 Trip

Hi, we've been to Italy twice so far but looking to start planning 2024 for my 50th and 15th Anniversary. I would love to do Tuscany & Cinque Terre. Possibly rent a Villa in Tuscany (pizza, pasta making, perhaps a villa with a pool) and then Cinque Terre. It would be my family with 2 kids 10 & 12 years and possibly another family with the same age kids. Any idea where to start? You all were so helpful in my planning last time!!

Go to VRBO or Airbnb and do some virtual shopping. At the same time, look around and see where you'd like to go. Tuscany is a big, varied region, with everything from houses in hilltowns to seaside villas to country places amid vineyards and olive groves. Will you driving? It's pretty much a sure thing in the country. Also do some food research. That "pasta and pizza" idea is too general. Tuscans eat lots of vegetables, lots of beans, salads, soups. It's not what "Italian" food is in the U.S. Have fun planning!

I find one villa nicer than the next on AirBNB and VRBO!! Can American's rent cars in Italy?

Can Americans rent cars in Italy?
Yes, of course. You need an IDP for each driver, which you get from AAA. And you need to know about ZTL (just google it). You will need a car for rural Tuscany.
What month? How many days?
It's too early to book flights but not too early to search them so you know the obvious schedule and typical prices.

If 7, I would stick to one location, with 9 it becomes more feasible to add another. That's also where flights will come into play.
For now, firm up the Tuscany plans since it is a large region. Will you include Florence, etc.

Since you’ve not driven in Italy, please download this e book. Knowing the rules of the road for Italy could save you some severe fines.

For rental cars look at Auto Europe.

With two families you’re going to need two cars. All drivers will need an IDP (international drivers permit) available at AAA for around $25.
