Planing tours

Flying into Venice in May from JFK. We will be leaving on Thursday around 5pm and landing in Venice 11am on Friday. We only have 2 nights in Venice and I know we have to stay awake. I was thinking of doing the Cicchetti and Wine tour thru viator around 5pm that night. Is this a good idea or doable? Never flew overseas! Help

Depending on how you react to jet lag and alcohol, you may find yourself face down in a glass of vino at your second or third stop!

Keep it relaxed. Drop your luggage at the hotel, take a shower, get your map, go out, try to find your way, get lost somewhere, and find yourself miraculously at St Mark's Square.

Venice is amazing and just walking around the city is the thing to do!!! Believe me, there are lots of tiny streets, lots of small bridges, lots of churches, lots of tiny shops, lots of canals to look at. You can spend the whole day just walking around, having a bit to eat outside, or a coffee and still not feel like you saw the whole city. I would do the Cicchetti the next night. You don't really need a plan on Friday, just starting walking and exploring!

I would make sure I see Saint Mark's Basilica (Italian: Basilica di San Marco; Venetian: Baxéłega de San Marco), is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice, northern Italy. It is the most famous of the city's churches and one of the best known examples of Italo-Byzantine architecture as soon as possible! It can be very crowded but it is stunning. And I would try to see the Doge's Palace which is amazing. Other than that, you will just need to walk around and see the city, especially the day you land and settle in. You will have a great time.

Ride the vaporetto from one end of the Grand Canal to the other, just sit and watch the city slip by.
